As the second semester begins, everyone begins to get anxious in anticipation for summer to start. For me, summer and the Jersey Shore are inextricable, and on the corner of 8th Avenue and Main Street lies a second a home—at least that’s what it feels like to me. In 2013, Stay Gold, an independent coffee shop, opened in downtown Belmar and became an instant hit.

The ‘rotating-art wall’ displays work from local artists and each individual piece of art on shows both originality and acceptance. Live music is a staple in any good coffee shop and Stay Gold does not disappoint. World-renowned reggae artist, Mishka, has performed, along with many other local artists including “local legends” the Stringbean and The Stalkers.

Inside of the shop, metal and wooden chairs with wooden tables are scattered throughout. With wooden interiors, a fireplace, and couches adorned with many pillows, the shop’s Brooklyn-like atmosphere gives off a comforting vibe.

Stay gold has had amazing success over the last few years and just recently opened a new location in Howell; they are looking to continue spreading their characteristic positivity to further locations. Expanding its dining experience and menu, the town of Howell should consider itself lucky to have a coffee shop like this one.

The New York Times has even taken notice of Stay Gold. In a  tribute to the 50th Anniversary of  “The Outsiders,” the Times mentioned the local coffee shop.

At Stay Gold, their philosophy is to provide a local, positive, and safe place for people to unwind, get some work done, or enjoy time with people they love.”

At Stay Gold, their philosophy is to provide a local, positive, and safe place for people to unwind, get some work done, or enjoy time with people they love. Tide, an employee at Stay Gold, calls it “a chill coffee shop in the heart of Belmar that serves trendy breakfasts and specialty coffee.” He agrees that Stay Gold feels comforting, giving guests a sense of home.

Their menu provides a variety of different coffee selections from their coffee bar, such as Vanilla Cinnamon Swirl and Golden Coconut. From fresh juices to acai bowls and smoothies, the shop has a lot of food selections. There are many different sandwiches, salads, tapas, and small plates as well. Customers always have options and they array of food items and desserts are sure to satisfy any customer’s needs.

As well as food, Stay Gold has a variety of merchandise. From hats to tee-shirts and sweatshirts, there are so many different ways to represent Stay Gold.

The local coffee shop’s hours vary depending on the days of the week. All hours are on their website and there is an option to order online.

Be sure to stop in and check it out! I am sure it will become your new favorite go-to, safe-place, like it became mine. Stay humble, Stay Gold.
