On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, Mount Saint Dominic Academy held a fundraiser at Chipotle in West Caldwell. The “One For The Team” fundraiser allows whatever association to acquire 33% of the proceeds from that night between the hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. In this case, the proceeds would support the Mount’s athletic program. All meals purchased, of any kind, were used in the donation.

The one thing that many people do not know is that Chipotle offers a variety of protein options (chicken, steak, tofu) and toppings (black beans, cheese, guacamole, etc.) to put in a bowl, burrito, salad, or taco. Many believe that Chipotle is another fast food restaurant, but it can be a healthy dinner option depending on what a customer puts in their meal. Chipotle does not only have meat, but it is now also vegetarian friendly! Customers can order “Sofritas,” tasty seasoned tofu.

“I always get a bowl with tofu instead of chicken or steak. It is delicious and so underrated,” said senior Emily Kilkeary.

During the event, Sister Fran and Sister Lena were spotted sitting with their delicious bowls very proud of the outcome of the fundraiser. The employees of the West Caldwell Chipotle were also very helpful in assisting Sr. Fran and Sr. Lena down the food line since that was their first time at Chipotle.

This was a great way to bring the community together and now I know exactly what to get next time I go to Chipotle…”

“This was a great way to bring the community together and now I know exactly what to get next time I go to Chipotle with the help of their staff,” stated Sr. Fran.

Mr. Sozio also took this event very seriously.

“It is important because it is a simple way to support your school,” Mr. Sozio commented. “It seems that Chipotle is very popular among the youth.”

— Mr. Sozio

He also did not hesitate to say that a bowl is his go-to Chipotle meal since it is easier to eat than a burrito. Mr. Sozio thanks everyone for their support and dedication to the fundraiser. According to Mrs. Palumbo, President of the Lions Paw, there are ongoing discussions about a similar fundraiser taking place at Panera this spring.

Furthermore, as a varsity volleyball player, I am always looking out for any way to help out Mount’s athletic program. This money will be used for new merchandise, and equipment. Not only was Chipotle night a success but it also brought the staff, students, and family of the Mount together in a new place.
