Vegetarianism has been on the rise in the past few years. Why, you may be asking? People are becoming more and more aware of what they are eating and where their food comes from. Some people make this decision to substitute meat and other animal products for either religious reasons, social justice reasons, or personal health reasons. But cutting meat out of your life isn’t as easy as it seems, and if not done in the right manner it could be harmful to your body. So how do people do it in a healthy way? Well, there are a bunch of companies that specialize in making meatless meat products. Two very popular ones are Gardein and MorningStar Farms. But which one is better? Let’s take a look at three different categories.

Variety
Both Gardein and MorningStar Farms have a variety of meat replacement foods. What each offers is very similar, if not the same, to the other. However, Gardein offers gluten-free and fishless options, but MorningStar Farms offers progressive options and they have a much larger variety of flavors for veggie burgers. While I rate these two very close in this category, when it comes to veggie burger selection less is more, so Gardein has a leg up on this one.

Taste
This is a hard category to rate the brands in because as someone who only became vegetarian a few months ago, I know what real meat tastes like. I hate to break it to any aspiring vegetarians, but fake meat is not as good as real meat. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s bad. When it comes to chick’n, I’d say Gardein and MorningStar Farms are pretty even there. But when it comes to veggie burgers, I’d have to give it to MorningStar Farms. This category was also a close one, but MorningStar Farms wins.

Aesthetic Appeal
To me, aesthetic appeal means everything because if I’m walking down the aisles at the grocery store I’m more likely to choose a brand that has a more appealing look. And in this category, I think the winner is a no-brainer with Gardein. Gardein has a more modern, sleeker look than MorningStar Farms, whose packaging is more outdated and seems to appeal more to older people. And as a younger person, I give the win to Gardein.

Overall, I have to say that Gardein is the better brand for young vegetarians. With the many different meatless options and the aesthetic appeal it overtakes MorningStar Farms.
