I hesitated just before opening the door to L1 and entering the blanket-making party. I knew absolutely nothing about knitting or crocheting and doubted that I would be of much help, but I entered anyway. Mrs. Nguyen smiled and looked up at me. “I don’t know how to knit, but I’m here to help,” I told her. She handed me four blankets, with instructions on how to mark and punch the holes necessary for crocheting the baby blankets. Over the next three days, I returned to L1 and slowly learned how I could help Mrs. Nguyen reach her goal of 125 blankets to donate to the “chilled babies” at the Saint Barnabas Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. By that weekend I had made five baby hats on a loom and poked holes in more than a dozen baby blankets. Mrs. Nguyen and her helping students are pushing closer to their goal of 125 blankets, each and every day, but are in need of more help.  If I, someone with no experience with knitting or crocheting of any kind, could accomplish that much in less than a week, then anyone can (and should) help. The goal is to finish the 125 blankets before Christmas
break, anyone willing to dedicate some time to this great cause can contact Mrs. Nguyen at nguyen@msdacademy.org.
