Think Pink! Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2021

Two years ago this month, I compiled, along with a fellow classmate, the story of my mother’s battle with Breast Cancer  bringing awareness to the issue. Being in an all girls school, and Breast Cancer being mostly a female issue, it is important to take charge and listen to our bodies. Here are some interesting breast cancer facts I think everyone should know!

  1. This year, the National Breast Cancer Organization found that 43,600 women would die from breast cancer.
  2. 1 in 8 women would be diagnosed with breast cancer in her life.
  3. In recent years, hormone replacement therapy has caused a decline in breast cancer diagnosis.
  4. Breast Cancer death rates for women are higher than any other cancer in the U.S., besides lung cancer.
  5. 85% of breast cancer diagnoses are not genetic and stem from genetic mutations or environmental causes

At the end of the day, nobody knows your body more than you do. Go get checked. Do self examinations. When you think something is wrong, go and see a specialist. Your health is above everything else. It is also so important that we make sure others who have survived breast cancer, are currently fighting their battle, or have family members who have been affected by breast cancer , feel the love that we give to them.
